Authors Langley, Batty. Description Langley, Batty. London: A. Bettesworth and J. Batley et al, Pages iv-v erroneously numbered xi-x. Twenty-eight folding plates drawn by Batty and Thomas Langley and engraved by Thomas Bowles and David Lockley; a few plates trimmed to margin. Title page printed in red and black. II, pp. Langley, a resident of Twickenham may well have been acquainted with Charles Bridgeman, a fellow nurseryman who assisted Alexander Pope with his garden at his Thames-side villa at Twickenham.
In this work "he decried too much formality in garden design" in his pursuit of a free style. Langley's guiding rules show that his outlook on garden planning was in advance of his [architecture] designs which are still very artificial and formal. Contemporary full calf covers rebacked. Very good. Limited edition, one of [eight printed on vellum].
Chaucer type, printed in black and red with wood-engraved frontispiece designed by Edward Burne Jones, borders and initials by Morris. SCOTT p. A few small abrasion marks back cover. Fresh, crisp copy. Authors Repton, Humphry. Description Repton, Humphry. London: T.
Bensley for J. Taylor, Stipple engraved p ortrait of Repton, twenty-seven engraved plates [12 hand-colored, 3 tinted, 12 with overslips, one colored folding and one double page]. Numerous engraved aquatint vignettes, one hand-colored, two with overslips. After trying and failing in a multitude of business endeavors, Repton launched himself as a "landscape gardener," a term he coined himself. After Capability Brown's death Repton filled the void in garden design, more as a consultant, charging for his Red Book designs, but allowing clients to arrange actual execution, This work is considered his classic.
Plate offsetting, modest toning, one overslip rehinged, 19th century ownership ink signature on title, original endpapers laid-down. Modern, sympathetic full brown calf decorated in blind. By John Ruskin. Limited edition, one of copies — an unopened copy. The fourth book of the Kelmscott Press printed in the Golden Type.

Collection of 14 partly-printed documents and manuscripts Description Collection of 14 partly-printed documents and manuscripts.
Assorted sizes some slightly taller than A4. Autograph manuscript of his poem ['On Being Human'] on the subject of angels. Description Oblong folio; ff. An artistically composed set of pressed floral arrangements, this album is the work of Boulos Meo, rug merchant and founder of the Jerusalem souvenir shop which bore his name for almost the entirety of the twentieth century. Each plate is linked to a particular biblical location, from Mount Temptation to Gethsemane, and many of the arrangements are centred around palm crosses.
Given this, the religious motifs apparent on the boards, and the printed title of the album, it seems plain that Meo's work was intended for Christian pilgrims to Jerusalem, whose numbers burgeoned as the city emerged from the lengthy period of doldrums it endured under Ottoman rule. Restrained, well-preserved, and beautifully presented, with a most unusual binding, carved as it is from local olive-wood, this is a compelling object. Publisher Meo. Date of publication: c.
